Naomi Kathryn Strecker

Naomi Kathryn Strecker, 88, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Naomi was born on February 12, 1932, on the family farm in rural Sylvan Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Harm and Laura (Hopfer) Gerdes.  She grew up in Sylvan Grove and graduated from Sylvan Grove High School in the class of 1950.   After high school, she graduated with an associate’s degree in business from St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Marvin R. Strecker on October 18, 1953, in Sylvan Grove.  From this union Naomi and Marvin were blessed with 3 children Laurel, James and Mary.  They moved to Russell, Kansas, in 1967.  She worked as a production clerk for several oil companies. Then she worked in a local accounting office. Until her retirement she owned and operated Russell Office Supply.  She was a former member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Russell and later in life enjoyed listening to church services on the computer and television.  She enjoyed researching genealogy, working on the computer, reading and following politics.  She loved camping and traveling with her husband Marvin. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving family include her daughter Laurel Strecker of Russell, Kansas; son James Strecker (Juanita Piedimonte) of Harrisonville, Missouri and daughter Mary Strecker of Grandview, Missouri; granddaughter Valiha Strecker (Mark Dedovesh); great grandchildren Grayson and Everly Dedovesh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin on July 11, 2016, and brother Laurence Gerdes.

Cremation has been selected by the family and there may be a celebration of life at a later date.  Visitation will be on December 22, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Russell Food Pantry or Russell Regional Hospital.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements.
