Melvin Andrew Flegler, 86, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Revask Center of Wichita, Kansas. Melvin was born September 20, 1932, in Hays, Kansas, one of three boys born to Elsie and Andrew Flegler.  He grew up on the family farm south of Russell and graduated from Russell High School. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army- attached to U.S. Air Force SCARWAF Engineer Unit during the Korean War.  After his tour of duty, he returned to the family farm to help his father. Neva Lee (Hoskins) Dodson, 92, of Salina, Kansas, and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in the loving presence of family and the staff at Dignity Care Home of Salina, where she resided the past four and a half years. Elizabeth “Betty” Franken Anschutz, of Hoover, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. She was born on May 29, 1934 in Cologne, Germany to the late Katharina and Otto Franken into a large family of eight sisters and one brother.  After surviving WWII in Germany, she came to the United States in 1958.  She self-taught and mastered the English language and went on to become a US Citizen in 1974.  Elizabeth “Betty” was strong willed, passionate, and full of life.  She loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking and baking and was known for her amazing chocolate chip

Herman J. Gerhardt, Sr., 83, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell. Herman was born October 19, 1935 in Victoria, Kansas.  He was one of thirteen children born to Michael and Florence (Brungardt) Gerhardt.  He grew up on a farm near Victoria and graduated from Victoria High School. Herman served his country in the U.S. Army, serving stateside.  After his tour of duty he returned to the Olmitz, Kansas area. Edna Eileen (Logan) Straub, 74, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at her home with her family by her side. Eileen was born July 3, 1944 in Great Bend, Kansas.  She was one of three children born to Harold DeLos and Edna I. (Craig) Logan.  Eileen grew up and attended schools in Claflin, Kansas. LoRee G. (Popp) Dietz, 90, of Hays, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Via Christi Village in Hays. LoRee was born March 24, 1928, in Barton County, Kansas, the daughter of William and Olinda (Schwartzkopf) Popp.  She was Baptized and Confirmed in the Reformed Lutheran Church.   She grew up in the Susank, Kansas area and graduated from Hoisington High School.  She then attended Ft. Hays State University and obtained a Teaching Degree.  She taught two years at North Star Dist #62 and two years at Rude School Dist. #91. LoRee was united in marriage

Nancy was born December 21, 1948 in Russell, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Kenneth D. and Dorothy M. (Brown) Dole.  She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in ’67.  She then attended and graduated from the Cosmetology School in Great Bend, Kansas. Laddie E. Merryfield, 87, formerly of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, February 23, 2019, in Lenexa, Kansas. Laddie was born to Clyde E. & Virginia C. (Emery) Merryfield on October 20, 1931 in Minneapolis, Kansas.  He graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1949.  Laddie married Lola Mae Rasmussen on June 1, 1950 and together they enjoyed a lasting marriage of over fifty years.  Laddie and Lola Mae moved to Lindsey, Kansas where they planned to be farmers.  The flood of 1951 changed those plans, and Laddie enlisted in the United States Air Force later that year.  After training in Natchitoches,

Billy Jean Wahl, 78, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019at Hays Medical Center. Billy was born on on November 7th, 1940 in Denver, Colorado. She spent most of herchildhood and all of her adult life in Kansas. For the last 29 years, Billy lived inRussell, served by Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas. Billy enjoyeddancing and singing to music, shopping for new clothes, wearing big sunglasses, hatsand jewelry, and spending time with friends.
