Opal L. Bunting

Opal Louise Bunting, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at the Main Street Manor Care Center in Russell, Kansas.

Opal was born on July 26, 1935, in Partridge, Kansas, the daughter of Edmond and Ethel (Nelson) Blew.  She grew up in Sylvia, Kansas, and graduated from Sylvia Rural High School.  After high school she met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Conrad Eugene Bunting on August 28, 1955, in Sylvia, Kansas.  From this union they were blessed with 3 children Cindy, Curtis and Chris.  She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Buckeye Supply Company for 15 years. Then, she was employed at DSNWK and later KO Beef and worked well into her mid-seventies. She was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Russell, Kansas.  She enjoyed, in her younger years, fishing, camping and traveling in their camper.  In her later years, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and church activities.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughter Cindy Hoferer and husband Paul of O’Neill, Nebraska; sons Curtis Bunting of Olmitz, Kansas and Chris Bunting of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 2 brothers Willie Blew of Stafford, Kansas and Beryl Blew and wife Twila of Sylvia, Kansas and sister Lola Mandeville and husband Jim of Hutchinson, Kansas.  Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Conrad on March 26, 1999. A celebration of Opal’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Due to weather concerns the services will conclude at the mortuary.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to Otterbein United Methodist Church of Russell, Kansas, and can be sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
