Paula J. Haggard

Paula Jean (Miles) Haggard left the earthly confines of her body on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Parkview Nursing Home, in Osborne Kansas.

Paula was born December 18, 1955, the oldest of William and Emma Jean (Dyer) Miles in Hamilton, Ohio. She grew up and attended schools in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating in 1974, from South Side High School. She graduated from Huntington College in 1979, with a degree in Elementary and Secondary Education. While there, she met, fell in love, and was married to Earl Haggard on December 16, 1977. They were graced with the presence of a beautiful baby girl, Hannah, in August of 1979.

Because she had a degree in education, Paula did a lot of substitute teaching, and worked various retail jobs. While living in Abilene, she was given the opportunity to take tax classes through H&R Block. Through those classes, she worked her way up to Master Tax Preparer for the IRS and worked for H&R Block for 20 years.  Anyone who knew Paula knew how much she loved Jesus and relied on her faith in God. As a pastor’s wife, she was actively involved in all aspects of the church, but especially loved teaching Sunday School and working with youth. She was known as a great encourager, and a mighty prayer warrior. Many times, Paula would send someone a card, not knowing what they were going through, and they would always let her know that she had sent that card to them just when they needed it most. She loved to cross stitch, do Sudoku puzzles, watch Hallmark movies, read Amish romance novels, and watch college football (Ohio State) and basketball (Kansas), and cheer on the Cowboys, no matter how disappointing they were.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma, her beloved husband, Earl on April 13, 2023, and one angel baby in 1986.

Paula is survived by her daughter, Hannah. Brothers, Phil Miles (Rhonda) and Perry Miles. Sister Pamela Weidner (Dan) and numerous nieces and nephews. Paula welcomed everyone into her heart and was also “Mom” to many of Hannah’s friends from high school and college.

A memorial celebration of Paula’s life will be held at 10:30 A. M. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  A graveside service will be at 2 P.M. at the Abilene Cemetery in Abilene, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday March 14, 2024 at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening.  Memorials may be given to the Russell County Food Pantry and may be sent to the mortuary. Pohlman Varner Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
