Steven Lee Hoop, 76, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Steve was born September 9, 1945 in Winfield, Kansas, the son of Joe & Peggy (Lemmon) Hoop. At a young age his family moved to Russell, where he grew up and graduated from Russell High School.
Steve served his country in the US Army. He was stationed in Korea.
Steve worked in the chemical lab at the Texeco Refinery in El Dorado, Kansas for many years. He also did insulation installment jobs in the area. He was a Life Member of the Russell VFW Post # 6240. He was a talent judge for the Kansas Beauty Contest for a few years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing and telling tales. His since of humor will be missed.
Steve’s surviving family include his children, Cody Hoop (Angel) of Russell, Kansas, Jordan Hoop (Audra) of Russell, Kansas and Justin Hoop of Russell, Kansas; step children, Jaime Forke of Omaha, Nebraska and Jennifer Gilman (Travis) of Beatrice, Nebraska; sister, Susan; sister-in-law, Candy Hoop of Wichita, Kansas; 23 grandchildren and one great grandchild; niece, Stephanie Callihan of Austin, Texas and a great niece and great nephew.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Hoop. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
