Steven R. Sherman

Steven Randolph Sherman, a lifelong resident of DesPlaines, Il., passed away on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. 

An avid philatelist, Steven was an active member of The Scandinavian Stamp Club, The Glen Ellyn Philatelic Club and the Northwest Stamp Club.  Steve was also a member of the Friends of the Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights and DesPlaines Public Libraries.  He was the Secretary of the Skjold Lodge of the Sons of Norway.  Also a talented genealogist, he traced his lineage back to 742 AD.

Steven graduated from Maine West High School in 1977 and received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois – Urbana in 1983.

Steven designed antenna systems for applications from hearing aids for Beltone to satellite receivers for Mark Antenna.  He designed wireless antenna systems for Comsat/RSI and cell phone antenna systems for Motorola.  He also worked on antenna designs at PCTEL and on the development of frequency filters at Netcom. Inc.  Steve was a member of IEEE EMC Society and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.  On any weekend you could find Steve at a Stamp Bourse, HamFest, Flea Market, Rock Show or Library Book Sale.  His positive presence is missed at all these gatherings.

Steven is survived by his brothers Levi B. Sherman lll and William D. Sherman and their wives Cherie and Jacque, two nephews, Robert J Sherman and James M Sherman and their wives Nicole and Elizabeth and grand nephews and nieces Aaron Sherman, Eileen Sherman Britton, Collin Sherman, David Sherman, Brianna Sherman and William Sherman.  He is also survived by his aunt, Mrs. Birdie Oden of Kansas and many Foster and Oden cousins across the United States.  He was preceded in death by his parents Levi B Sherman Jr and Olive Oden Sherman and will be interred with them in Russell, Kansas.

A Graveside Service and burial of ashes will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Russell City Cemetery.  A Memorial Service was held on June 22, 2019 in Des Plaines, Illinios.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
