Vernon D. Radke

Vernon Delano Radke, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Vernon was born July 9, 1933 on the family farm near Milberger, Kansas.  He was the son of Tobias and Amelia (Bitter) Radke.  He grew up in the Milberger area and attended schools in Milberger and Russell.  He graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 51.

Vernon was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Lynch on February 22, 1959 in Russell.  This union was blessed with two children; Mark and Robyn.  They made their home in Russell.  Pat preceded him in death on June 24, 2020.

Vernon worked in the office of the Federal Government Agriculture – A.S.C.S.  He also drove the school bus for USD 407 for many years.  He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed ironing sheets for the church ladies making quilts.  He enjoyed making miniature post rock fence post, working and tinkering in his shop and when he was younger enjoyed fishing.

Vernon’s surviving family include his daughter, Robyn Williams of Russell, Kansas; son, Mark Radke (Reba) of Sterling, Kansas; sisters, Rosalinda Addington (Dale) of Topeka, Kansas and Norma Koehler of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kelsey Shattuck (Jason), Cherish Richards and Christopher Radke; and four great grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; sister, Doris Steinert; and brother, Carl Radke.

A Graveside Memorial Service celebrating Vernon’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 14, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.  No visitation being held.  A Memorial has been established with Wheatland Nursing Home.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
