Bonnie J. Kelly

Bonnie Jean (Coleman) Kelly, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at Main Street Manor in Russell.

She was born September 27, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska, to Allen and Irma (Callahan) Coleman.  Bonnie grew up in Omaha, graduating from Technical High School and continuing on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Omaha University in 1953.  While attending the university, she was active in the modern dance company.

In August of 1953, Bonnie married Joseph M. Kelly, in Omaha, and began teaching art in the Omaha Public School system before they were blessed with four children:  Kathy, Maureen, Peggy and Joe.  In the late 1960’s, Bonnie re-started her career as an interior designer, taking her artistic talents in a new direction, and enjoyed many years of success. 

Bonnie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell, and, in her spare time, loved water color and oil painting, baking, dancing and taking care of her family.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Kathy McAdoo (Mike) of Russell, Kansas, Maureen Kelly-Miller of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Peggy Kelly of Metairie, Louisiana and Joe Kelly (Maribel) of Dallas, Texas; Her grandchildren are Brian Kelly (Kierstin), Erin Manginelli (Joe), Megan Kelly Miller, Scott McAdoo (Audra), Giovanni Emestica and great-granddaughters, Kailyn, Adley, Lena, Amelia, Sadie and Alessandra.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Tom Coleman, and sister, Janine Kindler.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 27, 2022 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  The family will be present to greet friends from 10:00 AM until the service at the Church.  A private family service and interment will be in Omaha, Nebraska, 6/28/22.

A Memorial has been established with St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of arrangements.
