Elaine Savilla Holmes, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Elaine was born on February 19, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Harvey and Doris (Bennett) Covington. She grew up in Phillips, Texas and graduated from Phillips High School. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Jack Holmes on November 01, 1953, in Phillips, Texas. From this union Elaine and Jack were blessed with 3 children Tami, Julia and Tim. The family lived in Sterling, Colorado, Cambridge, Nebraska and Farmington, New Mexico before moving to Russell, Kansas in 1974. Elaine worked for the Russell Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. Then she had the opportunity to work for the Russell County Courthouse working for the Russell County Clerk’s office for 5 years and the Register of Deeds for 6 years. She was a former active member of Calvary Chapel Assembly of God.
Surviving family include daughter Tami Hoffman and husband David of Golden, Colorado and Son, Tim Holmes of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren Julie King, Denver, Colorado, Jenny Maxwell, Arvada, Colorado, Justin (Maggie) Hoffman, Arvada, Colorado, Lauren (Alex) Lievestro, San Diego, California; six great-grandchildren Elise King Denver Colorado; Ava King, Nashville, Tennessee; Zadie, Zyla and Zaxton Maxwell, Arvada, Colorado; and Sawyer Hoffman of Arvada, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Julia Holmes, her parents Harvey & Doris Covington, her sister Peggy Norris and brother Tom Covington.
A memorial service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Cremation has been selected by the family and burial of the cremains will take place at the Russell City Cemetery. Family will greet guests the day of the service with a luncheon to follow at her beloved church Calvary Chapel Assembly of God. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
