Donna Kay Schmitt, 75, of Gorham, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Donna was born April 5, 1945 in Hays, Kansas. She was one of four children born to Johnnie and Mary Ann (Talbot) Schmitt. She grew up on the family farm south of Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School in the Class of 63.
Donna was a personal assistant for many families for many years in the Gorham area. She also was the owner and operator of the Schmitty’s Restaurant and liquor store in Gorham. She was a member of the Gorham Community Church and the Pilgrim Fellowship group. She enjoyed fishing, flying kites, watching wildlife and playing with her pet dogs and cats. She was a big hearted person who was always willing to help anyone in need.
Donna’s surviving family include her sister, Barbara Schmitt of Gorham, Kansas; brother, J.W. Schmitt (Colene) of Gorham, Kansas; niece, Dilene Reinhardt of Gorham, Kansas and nephew, J.R. Schmitt (Amy) of Gorham, Kansas.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and sister Faye Ann Schmitt.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established with the Gorham Community Church or Prairie Lawn Cemetery Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
