John S. Laubhan

John Stanley Laubhan, 81, of Russell, Kansas, passed away October 22, 2020, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

John was born on September 25, 1939, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Georg E. and Irene L. (Meier) Laubhan.  He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1957.  After high school he received training for auto mechanics at the U.S. Trade School in Kansas City, Missouri.  He eventually opened his own business and was owner and operator of Automatic Transmission Service in Russell for 50 years.  He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge, both of Russell.  He enjoyed square dancing, and was the head mechanic for the R.C. Williams Drag Race Team which won the Top Gas National Title in 1970 and 1971.

He is survived by his sister Janet Flickinger and husband Jon of Salina, Kansas; nieces, Jamie Farmer and husband Larry of Salina, Kansas and Julie Hudson and husband Gary of Georgetown, Texas; nephews, Jon Flickinger, Jr and wife Traci of Topeka, Kansas and Jered Flickinger of Austin, Texas; 18 grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; cousins, Liz Thielen of Russell, Kansas, Mike Laubhan, Larry Laubhan, Doug Schoenhals, Jim Schoenhals, Rick Schoenhals and Linda White; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  A private burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the mortuary.   Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, who is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
