Wanda J. Braun

Wanda Jean (Stull) Braun, 92, of Hays, Kansas, and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, at the Via Christi Village in Hays.

Wanda was born June 30, 1928 in Palco, Kansas. She was the daughter of Azel and Thelma (Glasgow) Stull. She grew up in Palco and graduated from Palco High School in the Class of 1946. She then attended and graduated from the Crum’s Beauty School after high school.

Wanda was united in marriage to Edwin J. “Eddie” Braun on June 27, 1950 in Victoria. This union was blessed with seven children: Cindy, Kurt, Steven, Kathleen, James, Karen and Susan. They made their home in Plainville, Kansas until 1968 when they moved to Russell. Eddie preceded her in death on March 22, 2017.  Wanda was a Beautician, working out of her home in Plainville and then working with Gloria at Charme Beauty Shop in Russell. She also worked as the Secretary for St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years.

She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Church Guild and the Salina Council of Catholic Women. She was a proud member of the “Church Building Committee” for St. Mary Queen of Angels Church She also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Quilters. She was a proud member of the Russell Ladies Golf Association and shot a Hole-In-One in 2006. She was an active person that enjoyed KU basketball, Chiefs football, and Royals baseball, she loved quilting, bike rides, weekends at the lake, and attending aqua classes in Hays. She and Eddie traveled around the world with friends, and many miles to spend time with their children and grandchildren.

Wanda’s surviving family include her four daughters, Cindy Munsch (Harvey) of Hays, Kansas, Kathleen Hoss of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Karen Gutierrez (Mario) of Hays, Kansas and Susan Dreiling (Todd) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sons, Kurt Braun (Cindy) of Aurora, Colorado, Steven Braun (Sue) of Aurora, Colorado and James Braun of Surprise, Arizona (Jim lost his wife Sharon after her battle with cancer on May 25, 2020); 19 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eddie; brothers, Wendell Stull and Rex Stull; two grandsons, Travis Braun and Jeremiah Braun.

Due to COVID-19, to protect our most vulnerable. A private family Mass will be held with burial following at the St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria. No visitation is being held. To all who have known and loved her, Thank You! We will miss your presence! To all her grandchildren that will not be travelling in, “We love you”, a “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date. Remember and Honor those in Nursing Care Facilities, they are lonely and need Connection. A Memorial has been established with the Via Christi Village of Hays, (for employees and safe visitation for her friends). Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
