Kristen F. Windscheffel

Kristen Faye (Kuhn) Windscheffel, 39, of Russell, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Russell Regional Hospital, with the same courage and grace she fought her 30 month battle with Cancer.

Kristen was born September 26, 1984, in Pratt, Kansas, the youngest daughter born to Tim and Faye (Thompson) Kuhn. Driven to excel from her earliest years, Kristen’s childhood foreshadowed the far reaching and lasting impact she would have on so many. Kristen stands as a highly distinguished graduate of Pratt High School. She was a leader on the field, in the classroom, and in the student body. Her selfless spirit and competitive drive helped lead teams to state recognition in multiple sports, including two state track championships. Kristen was named the Pratt High Female athlete of the year in 2003.  Kristen excelled at The University of Kansas where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance in 2007 followed by a Master’s Degree in 2008. During her time at KU, Kristen was an active participant in the student body, serving on the American Business Women’s Association, and won additional recognition as a Woman of KU in 2006 and 2007.

Kristen was united in marriage to Jake Windscheffel on January 2, 2009 in Lawrence, Kansas. This union was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Journey Faye in 2012. They made their home in Kingman, Kansas, from 2009 until 2013 when they moved to Russell.  Kristen achieved a lifetime of business success in just 15 short years. Kristen was a Financial Advisor for Edward D. Jones Investments, where she took immense pride in serving her customers. She felt truly blessed to be trusted by so many. Previous employment included working as a CPA for BKD Accounting and Gudenkauf and Malone, Inc. as well as serving as the CFO of High Plains Farm Credit. She carried great memories and relationships from each of the places she worked. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Russell Rotary, Delta Mu Sorority and served on the RCACF Board. She enjoyed running, physical fitness activities, hiking and spending time at the lake, but at the top of the list was supporting Journey in all of her endeavors. Through her faith, she had a positive impact on her family, friends, and so many others. She will be deeply missed by many.

Kristen’s surviving family include her husband of 15 years, Jake, and daughter Journey Faye, of the home; parents, Tim and Faye Kuhn of Pratt, KS and sister, Kelli Barker (Tim) of Pratt, KS, nephews Kaden, Jack, Kyler, Hudson, and Levi Barker, grandmother Florence Thompson of Russell, Ks. and a loving in-law family. She is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles that she loved dearly.

Kristen was preceded in death by grandparents, Fred & Lola Kuhn and Lex Thompson; and uncles, Carle Kuhn, Tom Kuhn, Jim Thompson and Scott Thompson.

Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
