Lester G. Satchell

Lester Gene Satchell, 75, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Medicalodges in Goddard, Kansas.

Lester was born on January 27, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of E. Paul and Irene Emma (Waymaster) Satchell.  He grew up in Bunker Hill, Kansas and graduated from Bunker Hill High School.  After high school, he attended Ft. Hays State University for a short while.  In 1966 he joined the United States Marine Corp from 1966 to 1970 and fought in the Vietnam war.  After serving his country he worked in California as an owner and operator of his own electrical business.  He later went back to college and received his bachelor’s degree in education and taught as a special education teacher for about 15 years.  He was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and the Russell American Legion Post #99 and was an avid reader.

Surviving family include his mother Irene Satchell of Russell, Kansas; daughter Ranea D. Satchell of Wichita, Kansas and sister Rebecca Speicher of Russell, Kansas. 

He was preceded in death by his father E. Paul Satchell and step brothers Eddie, Roy and Paul Satchell. Cremation has been selected by the family.

Due to large amounts of rain at the cemetery and poor road conditions the funeral service location has changed. A memorial service to celebrate Lester’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Family will greet guests the day of the service.  Military honors will be presented by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the memorial services.
