Maxine E. Scheck

Maxine Elizabeth Scheck, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellsworth, Kansas.

Maxine was born on November 13, 1937, in Arma, Kansas, the daughter of John and Eulett (Nahon) Wyant.  She grew up in the Russell and Gorham areas most all her life and graduated from Gorham High School in Gorham, Kansas.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Melvin Joseph Scheck on August 10, 1955, in Arma, Kansas.  From this union Maxine and Melvin were blessed with 3 sons Charles, Kenneth and Christopher.  She worked for J.C. Penny’s and Wards as a salesperson and worked as a meat cutter at Safeway.  She was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell and a member of the church woman’s auxiliary and Russell County voting organization.  She enjoyed baking, camping, fishing and watch NFL Football, cheering on her Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed be active in her grandchildren’s lives.

Maxine is survived by her two sons Kenneth J. Scheck and wife Stephanie of Russell, Kansas and Christopher J. Scheck of Topeka, Kansas; three sisters Freda Taylor of El Dorado, Kansas, Beverly LaFlair and husband Howard of Arizona and Paula Crites of Ellsworth, Kansas; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin J. Scheck on August 25, 2015, and son Charles A. Scheck.

A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be from 1 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Wednesday evening.  Memorials may be given to St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Chursh and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
