Michael Alan “Mike” Hopper, 63, of Russell, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023 at his home.
Mike was born February 24, 1960, in Hays, Kansas. The son of James David, II and Dorothy M. (Teppe) Hopper. He grew up in Russell and was a 1978 graduate of Russell High School. He then attended Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University.
Mike was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Baird on July 6, 1985 in Hays, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children; Cameron and Brianne. They made their home in Russell.
Mike was the General Manager of ABCO Wire & Metal Products. He was active in the Russell Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed fishing, golf and hunting. He spent his free time working and playing at the farm with his friends and family.
Surviving family include his wife of 38 years, Beth of Russell, Kansas; son, Cameron W. Hopper (Mary Grace) of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Brianne E. Perez (Erick) of Swansboro, North Carolina; sister, Becky Vogt of Las Cruces, New Mexico; brothers, Tom Hopper (Carol) of Mesquite, Texas and Tim Hopper (Laura) of Russell, Kansas; and a grandson, Hezekiah Perez.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James D. Hopper, III and William Z. Hopper.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 18, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A private burial of ashes will follow at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
